How to Become a Certified Surgical Tech

After you graduate from Everest's Surgical Technologist program, you will want to become certified. The most recognized certification is to become a certified surgical technologist (CST), which is given by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Many employers require their surgical tech candidates carry the CST designation.

Surgical tech certification shows you have the knowledge and skills needed to practice your profession. These include skills related to surgical procedures, aseptic techniques and patient care.

Certification also demonstrates pride in your profession and your commitment to quality patient care. Certification can also provide upward mobility, higher pay and recognition throughout the health care industry.

Everest's Surgical Technologist career training program prepares you for this national examination. The academic and practical skills you acquire in your Everest education can allow you to take this test with confidence.

Before testing, you will have to establish your eligibility by submitting the appropriate application form along with the required fees. This fee is included in the tuition cost, allowing students to sit one time for the national certifying exam.

Once approved, the NBSTSA will provide you with an Authorization to Test (ATT) number along with a phone number and Web address you can use to contact the testing agency and schedule your test.
