Microbiology and Infection Control Course

The Microbiology and Infection Control course provides you with a fundamental understanding of medical microbiology, infection control, body system diseases and how the body defends itself against them.

This course also covers the:

  • Major classes of microorganisms and their microbial relationships
  • Characteristics of protozoa, fungi, bacteria, viruses, yeasts, molds and their mycoses
  • Portals of entry and exit for infectious diseases
  • Difference between direct and indirect contact in the transmission of pathogens
  • Body defense mechanisms against disease and the types of immunities necessary
  • Various methods of healing, vaccines and immunities

You will also have the opportunity to learn factors that influence the occurrence of infection, symptoms of various infections and wound healing.

Learning occurs both in the classroom and in the clinical labs so you will not only learn the skills needed for a health care career, but how to apply them in real-world situations.
